Financial services is big business.

From banking and insurance, to accountancy and credit unions, it’s about managing the money that keeps everything else ticking along.

A Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Financial Services could be the start of a rewarding career.

The Foundation Apprenticeship

An FA Financial Services helps you discover what a career in finance would be like, and if it’s right for you – while you're still at school. You’ll try different job roles, shadow experienced staff, or do a special project. You’ll build the practical skills and experience you need to do the job well.

What qualifications will I gain?

You’ll be assessed throughout your FA Financial Services. At the end, you’ll achieve a Foundation Apprenticeship (Group Award) in Financial Services at SCQF Level 6, which will include:

  • Three units from the SVQ3 in Providing Financial Services (SCQF Level 6)
  • A National Progression Award in Financial Services (SCQF level 6)

Where could it take me?

With a FA Financial Services you could:

  • Gain accelerated entry onto the Modern Apprenticeship in Providing Financial Services at SCQF Level 6
  • Gain entry onto the Technical Apprenticeship in Banking, Insurance and Professional Services at SCQF Levels 8/9
  • Explore options for a related Graduate Level Apprenticeship in Financial Services
  • Continue your studies at college or university direct
  • Go straight into a job in the financial services sector

Where could an FA take you? The graphic shows that the FA can lead to a GLA in business management: financial services, an MA in providing financial services, or a college or uni course in finance. Typical jobs include financial advisor, electrical engineering technician or insurance broker. Skills gained include work readiness, numeracy skills, working with others, problem solving, organisational skills and time management.
