This Modern Apprenticeship offers multiple levels for employees to start, and keep developing, their career in accounting and finance.

Qualifications

SCQF level 5

Your employee will study for an SCQF level 5 Certificate in Accounting, or an SCQF level 5 Introductory Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting technicians.

Entry requirements

Candidates don’t need previous accounting experience at this level. But, it’s important that they enjoy working with numbers, and can demonstrate potential for developing good communication skills.

Progression and development

After completing this level, the apprentice could move up to the SCQF level 6.

SCQF level 6

Your employee will study for an SCQF level 6 Diploma in Accounting, or an SCQF level 6 Intermediate Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting.

Entry requirements

For this level, it’s recommended that candidates have achieved either an SCQF level 5 in accounting, or Higher Accountancy at A-C, or two Highers in other academic subjects A-C. They’d also need good communication skills and experience in work.

Progression and development

After completing this level, they could move up to the SCQF level 8.

SCQF level 8

Your employee will study for an SCQF level 8 Diploma in Accounting, or an SCQF level 8 Diploma in Accounting and Business.

Entry requirements

For this level, it’s recommended that candidates have achieved either an SCQF level 5 in accounting, or Higher Accountancy at A-C, or two Highers in other academic subjects A-C. They’d also need good communication skills and experience in work.

Progression and development

After completing this level, employees will have exemption from the foundation stages of Chartered Accountancy qualifications through ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA. They can also gain direct entry to stage two of the Robert Gordon University BA in Accounting with CIMA Advanced Diploma programme.

How much will it cost?

Training

We will contribute towards the training costs, paying the learning provider directly in incremental payments throughout the course of the apprenticeship.

Use the contribution tables to work out the funding level for this framework:

Modern Apprenticeship Contribution Table (16-24 age group)
Modern Apprenticeship Contribution Table (25+ age group)

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees who are aged 16 – 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Salary

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we do encourage all employees to pay the living wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

Time to complete

It will take between 12-24 months to complete.
