This Modern Apprenticeship is offered at two levels. It suits employees who are new to water treatment management or those who want to gain qualifications in their current role, and develop their skills further. After completion, employees can work in any role relating to water treatment management, including: Legionella risk assessments, including reviews and audits. Cleaning, including physical and chemical cleaning, and disinfection. Testing, monitoring and inspection of any water system and components. Supply of chemicals for the treatment of water. Supply and service of water treatment plant and equipment.

Qualifications

SCQF level 5

Your employee will study for a qualification at SCQF Level 5 in Water Treatment Management.

 

 

Entry requirements

There are no formal requirements but candidates should demonstrate a desire to work in water treatment in Scotland.

Progression and development

On completion of this Modern Apprenticeship, your employees will have the foundation skills needed for the following roles:

  • Water treatment tester
  • Cleaning operator
  • Water/systems remedials engineer
  • Equipment engineer
  • Legionella risk assessor surveyor
  • Water treatment engineer

They will also be prepared for further training and awards, including:

  • Modern Apprenticeship in Water Treatment Management at SCQF level 6
  • Higher National Certificate/Diploma in chemistry, science or a related discipline
  • Assessor and verifier awards
  • Qualifications in health and safety, training and development, business improvement techniques and supervisory management
  • Membership of a professional institution at technician level
  • Cogent Gold Standard qualifications

SCQF level 6

Your employee will study for an SCQF Level 6 qualification in Water Treatment Management.

Entry requirements

Candidates should have completed the SCQF Level 5 Modern Apprenticeship in Water Treatment Management, or have equivalent experience or qualifications.

Progression and development

On completion of this apprenticeship, your employees will have the skills they need to progress in the following roles:

  • Water treatment technician
  • Cleaning supervisor
  • Equipment technician
  • Equipment specialist
  • Water treatment specialist
  • Leisure pool supervisor
  • Legionella risk assessor — H&C/Evaporative/Process

How much will it cost?

Training

We will contribute towards the training costs, paying the learning provider directly in incremental payments throughout the course of the apprenticeship.

Use the contribution tables to work out the funding level for this framework:

Modern Apprenticeship Contribution Table (16-24 age group)
Modern Apprenticeship Contribution Table (25+ age group)

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees who are aged 16 – 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Salary

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we do encourage all employees to pay the living wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

Time to complete

It will take between 12-24 months to complete.
