Job overview

Established more than 15 years ago, the Glasgow Technology Centre is one of a number of global technology hubs for the firm and is a key location in our global franchise with over 1500 Technologists developing and supporting global systems using cutting edge technologies. As an Application Developer on the Graduate Apprentice Programme you will be part of this team.

What might a typical day in this job look like?

Apprentices will work towards an Honours Degree in Software Development. This training will be a mixture of day release and on-site portfolio completion. The programme will run over the course of 47 months.

We recognise that our people are our greatest asset and our competitive advantage, and actively support the study of further qualifications following the programme’s completion, according to the needs of their role and the desires of the individual. Our training partner will facilitate and monitor the apprentices’ progress throughout the programme.

Using our performance management tool, apprentices are encouraged to be proactive and invest in their own development, seeking out and taking advantage of the extensive range of opportunities available to them at every stage of their career, at their own pace. A comprehensive portfolio of online and virtual workshops combined with face to face sessions and professional development activities is available, covering topics such as software development, product knowledge, personal development and presentation skills. This is supplemented by an extensive suite of online programmes, business learning sessions and ‘bite-sized’ training modules.

Apprentices will be fully supported by their direct managers and provided pastoral care. In addition to this, each apprentice will be assigned a technical buddy from the previous intake, who can:

• Increase knowledge of how to navigate our organisation
• Relay personal insights and provide guidance and support to enhance development
• Act as a sounding board and provide different perspectives and advice
• Positively address any issues and encourage/build confidence in others
• Provide opportunities to practice new skills and share ideas
• Introduce and support networking within the business

What will I learn?

If successful you will attend a comprehensive induction programme designed to familiarise you with the firm, our products, services and culture. A dedicated training curriculum will run throughout the programme alongside networking events, sporting activities and philanthropic initiatives. These formal elements will be enhanced by continued ‘on the job’ training activities developed for each individual by their line manager.

What qualification or qualities are required?

Our aim is to attract smart and talented Scottish Higher (or equivalent) students to join one of our teams in Glasgow and to develop them to be a future leader.

These specialist apprenticeship roles will follow a structured 47-month programme developing personal and professional skills within the firm.
Academically we require ABBC or equivalent (BBBB), including Mathematics or Computer Science or Physics, at Scottish Higher (or equivalent), plus National 5 English.

Put simply, we're looking for the best people to join our team of some of the finest minds in business.
