As a fitter, you will install pipes, major equipment, and machinery aboard ships, and prepare seats for the main engines, gearboxes and propulsion shafts.
This will involve detailed and precise alignment techniques with minimum tolerance to demonstrate a successful build.
You will be trained to assemble, install and maintain complex machinery. You will learn to read engineering drawings and to use a wide range of tools.
As part of your role, you will look after valves, pumps and transmission systems, while being responsible for prime movers such as diesel engines and gas turbines, and understand the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace
The role of Mechanical Fitter involves working from engineering drawings, data and documentation in order to carry out the manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, fault diagnosis and maintenance of all hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment. This can include the Main Propulsion Machinery, Weapons systems and Reactor services.
The qualifications is for: 5 National 4s to include English, Maths and a Science or Technical Subject
