Job overview

We are excited to announce that we have fantastic opportunities to join our team of Careers Advisers as a Modern Apprentice in Career Development.  Our Careers Advisers provide information, advice and guidance to customers. They work with them to build their career management and employability skills and support them throughout their career journey.

Supported by a mentor you will undertake a range of duties such as: responding to customer enquiries face to face and on the phone, signposting customers to relevant SDS services, promoting our services to young people who are in school or are unemployed, supporting the co-delivery of group sessions and maintaining accurate customer records.

What will I learn?

You will be supported to develop the necessary skills to be able to carry out the duties listed above.

During your time with us you will be encouraged to build and maintain knowledge of the local and national economy, as well as how education, skills and industry all work together.

We also offer a development programme. During your 2 years with us you will be invited to attend workshops on Communication and Presentation Skills, Project Management, Managing Yourself and Reporting Writing, to name a few. This is designed to ensure that whether you stay with SDS or decide to move on you have the knowledge and skills to secure employment.

What qualification or qualities are required?

There are no minimum entry requirements for this role. You do require a good level of written and verbal communication skills and IT skills to be able to communicate in a business environment. We are looking for young people with a willingness to learn and with the right behaviours and attitude to be able to successfully complete the apprenticeship while you work. If you are a people person, work well in a team, are organised and want to help and inspire others then we want to hear from you.

Please note that although we do not state a minimum entry level qualification we do operate on the basis if you already have achieved a qualification equivalent to SCQF 9 (SVQ 4 or ordinary degree) then we are unable to progress your application. If you have a degree then please visit our website and register for alerts for Graduate Trainee Careers Adviser opportunities.
