Job overview

The apprentice will study for 4 years whilst learning practically on the job here at Had-Fab. The successful individual will work closely alongside the electrical and mechanical maintenance teams in order to improve the reliability of the site. The purpose of this opportunity is to build a succession plan for Had-Fab with the ultimate aim of a position at the end of the placement.

What will I learn?

Learn how to safely maintain and repair a wide range of electrical/mechanical equipment to a high standard in an industrial environment.

Skills you'll develop include: mechanical applications and solutions, electrical wiring, testing and installation.

You will attend Edinburgh College (Midlothian) and therefore will need to have your own transport or use of public transport when commuting to work or college when term starts.

Had-Fab work closely with EDETA as the nominated service provider for the Company throughout the apprenticeship programme. Complete the required work associated with module assessments in a timely manner, raising issues early when not meeting required deadlines.

The successful applicant will be required to train as an Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance apprentice, attaining the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to become a fully qualified and competent trade's person. The apprenticeship scheme is run in conjunction with a training provider and Edinburgh College Midlothian Campus to ensure the applicant is supported through a high quality training programme. Training normally takes a period of 4 years.

During the programme the post holder will work towards achieving an SVQ 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance and an NC/HNC (SCQF Level 7) in Electrical.
Year 1 – Part-time attendance at college/Had-Fab SVQ PEO Level 2
Year 2 – Part-time attendance at college/Had-Fab
Year 3 t& 4 – day release to college, remainder of time workplace based, and time spent on-the-job learning, developing knowledge and skills.

What qualification or qualities are required?

You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement

Candidates should be enthusiastic team members with a natural interest and aptitude for electrical/mechanical engineering.
Hold a minimum of 4 National 5’s (or Equivalent) or above such as Maths/ English/ Science or Tech Studies and/or a relevant NC qualification.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to use your own initiative and a strong drive to succeed are all essential.
