Job overview

Engage in all aspects of mechanical repair, maintenance and associated works of the Comhairle’s Garage Services.

To receive training towards a recognised Craft and assisting Craftsmen in the delivery of a high standard of service in the repair and maintenance of the Comhairle’s Vehicles, Plant and Equipment.

What will I learn?

To ensure that all information received and disseminated, whether verbal, written or electronic concerning all employees, prospective employees or service users is treated in the strictest confidence and that all such information held is regulated and controlled in a similar manner in compliance with Data Protection legislation.
To ensure that all duties and responsibilities are performed in a safe manner so that no risk to health and safety arises to yourself, any other employee or member of the public.
As the Comhairle is committed to the effective management of risk, it is the responsibility of all employees to carry out their duties and responsibilities with adequate regard for Risk Management as outlined within the Comhairle’s Risk Management Policy.

What qualification or qualities are required?

A clear understanding of the mechanical trade.
A basic knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace.
Good communication skills and the ability to undertake college tests relevant to the trade.
Ability to work as part of a team and know when to ask for assistance.
Ability to complete set tasks as required.
A sound basic education.
Expected to travel to the mainland for attendance at College on a regular basis.
Demonstrate a keenness to work with vehicles and mechanical plant
