The position is a modern apprenticeship leading to becoming a qualified Welder/Fabricator. It is anticipated that the apprenticeship will last approximately 4 years. The successful individual will work closely alongside the Welding/Fabrication team in order to manufacture components for various industries using a range of welding equipment to include MIG and TIG.
Our strong aim would be to offer the person a permanent contract at the end of the apprenticeship, but this is not guaranteed.

Main duties are to: Learn how to work safely at all times whilst operate welding and fabrication equipment. Completion of college qualifications on day release with the apprentice being responsible for their own transport to the college. The same high standards are expected in college as in work.Undertaking all assigned tasks in the workshop. A structured programme will be prepared aimed at providing general experience in all aspects of our Fabrication/Welding shop.
The apprenticeship is 4 years total
First year – 2 days a week at college/3 days at HadFab
Second year - 2 days a week at college/3 days at HadFab beginning L3 qualification in the workplace through to year 4.
There is the prospect of attending college 1 day at week in year 3 & 4 – see training qualification section below.
The training will take the form of a Modern Apprenticeship (4 Years) and will lead to a formal qualification of SVQ level 2 and 3, NC with the possibility of progressing to a HNC level in years 3 & 4.
The Training provider is EDETA. (1st year at Edinburgh College SVQ level 2 part time and 2nd year for NC part time at Edinburgh College Mid Lothian Campus) Remaining time at HadFab in the workshop, completing SVQ L3 in Fab/Weld year 2 through to year 4
You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement
Hold a minimum of 3 National 5’s (or Equivalent) or above such as Maths/English/ Science or Tech Studies and/or a relevant NC qualification.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to use your own initiative and a strong drive to succeed are all essential.
Enthusiasm for engineering and a determination to learn.
Self starter and motivated person.

Responsibility, reliability and dedication.
Apprentices may move forward to become our future managers and engineers therefore those to which it is suited may move on to complete HND/ Degree level status subject to gaining an HNC.
