Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) is a leading centre for research focused on new medicines, better medicines and better use of medicines

The Institute seeks to appoint a modern apprentice who can provide technical support to our teaching and research. Working as part of a team, duties will include setting up equipment, preparing solutions and assisting students in locating materials or equipment that they may require. The majority of work will be planned a day or two in advance by the line manager or senior technician.

What will I learn?

Preparation of biological media.
Preparation of basic chemical solutions.
General lab housekeeping duties e.g. Autoclaving of all biological/clinical waste, cleaning fridges and freezers, laboratory bench cleaning and glass washing.
Setting up of laboratory equipment and materials.
Assist students and staff to locate materials and equipment they may require.
Comply with relevant health and safety procedures affecting the laboratory environment.

What qualification or qualities are required?

You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement

You will have a minimum of 4 Nat 5’s at A, B and C (or equivalent) which must include English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. A Higher grade qualification or equivalent is desirable.
You will be proficient with computer packages, stand-alone and networked systems and have the ability to exchange factual information, verbally and in writing.
You will be well organised and willing to learn new skills, hard working with the ability to work and communicate as part of a team.
