Job overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electronics Manufacturing Planning Engineering Apprentice to join one of the UK’s most successful Contract Electronic Manufacturers based in Musselburgh. We supply high end electronics to a wide range of markets including, Military, Aerospace, Automotive, Industrial Computing and engineering, Medical and Broadcasting.
We are looking to employ an apprentice who is keen to progress in the world of engineering and who has a real passion and desire to understand the workings of electronics and related processes. The successful candidate must have a flexible, enthusiastic attitude with good team working ability. The ability to follow instruction and self-motivation is also a pre-requisite.
As an Electronics Manufacturing Planning Engineering Apprentice you’ll attain base engineering skills in the form of an SVQ Levels 2 & 3 and HNC/HND. Over a period of 4 years, this will be a mix of you attending college and working in an electronic manufacturing environment gaining hands on experience.
Skills you’ll develop include: As a Manufacturing Planning Engineer, you'll will learn all aspects of electronic and mechanical assembly from understanding the process requirements including SMT assembly, manual assembly, mechanical engineering, through to Electrical test and customer approval.
You will also learn Enterprise Resource Planning systems, stock and document control, production planning and quotations.
Year 1 – Full-time attendance at college SVQ PEO Level 2 (6 Months) & 1st Year HND Years 2 through 4 – Day release attendance at College/Zot Engineering remainder of time workplace based, and time spent on-the-job learning, developing knowledge and skills working toward an SVQ Level 3 in Technical Support .
Candidates should be enthusiastic team members with a natural interest and aptitude for electrical/mechanical engineering. Hold a minimum of 2 Highers in Maths and English plus 3 National 5’s at level C or above such as Product Design, Science or Tech Studies and/or a relevant NC qualification.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to use your own initiative and a strong drive to succeed are all essential. Enthusiasm for engineering and a determination to learn. Self starter and motivated person. Ability to get on with colleagues and customers Commitment to upholding high health and safety standards Responsibility, reliability and dedication.
Future Prospects Working with experienced planners/programmers and manufacturing staff in an engineering environment where attention to health and safety is critical. Apprentices may move forward to become our future managers and engineers therefore those to which it is suited may move on to complete HND/ Degree level status subject to gaining an HNC.
