Job overview

Redbuild is an Edinburgh based building contractor specialising in refurbishment and restoration of traditional residential properties in and around Edinburgh. Due to ongoing contracts and scheduled repeat business we have a fantastic opportunity for an individual wanting to train, or to continue to train, in the construction industry. We are looking for someone who is interested in training as an apprentice joiner within construction or who has completed part of a joinery apprenticeship and is keen to continue to being time served.

The successful candidate will join our existing team working on various sites with Edinburgh and Lothians under the supervision of experienced tradesmen and a site foreman. The role will require the ability to pay close attention to ongoing work, to take direct instructions and action them, use their own initiative and skills and assist with the joinery output on site.

What will I learn?

Take down and ripping out redundant timber work
Setting aside and protecting Items to be reinstated
Preparing areas for structural joinery
Fist fix joinery including framing out and structural work
Second fix and finishing work to high standard
Working on period and listed properties in and around Edinburgh
Working on floors, internal walls and patricians, Traditional sash and case window refurbishment/repair/refitting, installation of new sash and case windows, attic work/conversions, roof work including exposed structural timbers
Measuring and estimating scope of works to prepare materials and time required schedules

What qualification or qualities are required?

You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement

The successful candidate will be:

• Interested in starting, or continuing, to train in a recognised joinery apprentice scheme
• Comfortable working in a multi person, multi skilled, fast moving environment and be able to pay attention to work going on around them
• Focused on developing the skills required to become a tradesman
• Interested (and knowledgeable) in joinery and general construction
• Interested (and knowledgeable) in residential construction
