Job overview

One of Scotland’s finest and most iconic 5-star hotels and sporting estates, we are currently seeking dedicated and ambitious Greenkeeping Apprentices.

Gleneagles has inspired generations of apprentice greenkeepers, who’ve learnt their trade on our beautiful golf courses, honed their craft through all weathers and seasons, and kick-started successful careers in the industry.

So much more than a job, our Greenkeeping Apprenticeship is the chance to earn while you learn, a journey of discovery, an opportunity to learn from experts at the very top of their game, an outstanding professional development experience, and an industry kitemark that is recognised globally.

A bit about where you'll be working:

A golfer's paradise for a century, Gleneagles’ hallowed fairways have been graced by the good, the great and legends of the game, and its greens have welcomed some of the biggest events in sport.

But our three championship courses are not only for our guests to enjoy; they’re where our greenkeepers work every day, maintaining course conditioning to ensure Gleneagles strengthens its reputation as one of the world’s most iconic golf destinations.

If you hate sitting behind a desk all day, and prefer to work in an ‘office’ where you get to enjoy fresh air, wildlife and physical activity, our Greenkeeping Apprenticeship offers the chance to develop your skills under the mentorship of some of the most respected greenkeeping professionals in the world.

Far from just ‘cutting grass’, you’ll be gaining experience in the fundamentals of irrigation, mechanics, and construction, learning about cutting-edge technologies, and getting a front row seat to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

With three championship golf courses – The King’s, the No.1 inland course in Scotland, The Queen’s, one of the finest par-68 golf courses in the UK and The PGA Centenary Course, Host Venue of The 2014 Ryder Cup and 2019 Solheim Cup – you’ll be building experience across a diverse range of course settings.

A fascinating combination of education, science and art, our Greenkeeping Apprenticeship is an opportunity to establish a rewarding and successful career in a truly international discipline.

What will I learn?

The Greenkeeping Apprenticeship is a unique hands-on programme that leads to a Modern Apprenticeship Sports Turf Greenkeeping SCQF Level 6 and a permanent position on successful completion of the apprenticeship.
