Job overview

This local opticians is looking for a new member of staff to expand the Optical team here. This role is ideal for a 'switched-on' fast learning and hardworking school leaver who is keen to embrace an apprenticeship.

On a day to day basis you will be working in and supporting the spectacle lens online business. You will be learning about prescription spectacle lenses, admin duties and roles such as invoicing, order checking, prescription checking, you will need to file accurately as our orders form medical records so accuracy is key.

As you advance you will also be working alongside the lab team, posting jobs to the correct addresses, using franking equipment etc.

You will be working under supervision so need to accept instructions without hesitation and follow them precisely. They work with very accurate measurements to tolerances within 10th of millimetres so attention to detail is a must.

Working to time scale to fulfil patients orders is important, sometimes these are tight so you to be able to prioritise workloads and work hard to meet these deadlines but without compromising on quality.

What will I learn?

You will be fully supported through a Business Administration SCQF Level 6. Your communication, organisation and time management skills will all be developed as part of this opportunity.

What qualification or qualities are required?

We are looking for National 5s or Highers in Business Management, Administration & IT, and English. Although a high-achieving academic history isn't vital for this role, common sense and an interest in learning coupled with seeing the potential this role could offer you is imperative.

You will be being taught from scratch so no experience is needed but you will need an aptitude for hard work and quick learning. You will need to be good with your hands, but also have excellent computer skills. You will be replying to customer emails, queries and requests so a good written manner and great customer skills are a must.
