Acies undertakes the civil and structural design of buildings projects up to construction values of £50m+. A lot of our projects are alterations to existing, and often historic buildings. We also undertake new build projects and the associated civils works associated with buildings developments. We work across the whole of the UK.

As a graduate Apprentice, you will be working with an experienced team of civil and structural engineers and technicians, within a newly fitted out multi-disciplinary office in Edinburgh’s West End. You will have the opportunity to work with and be mentored by colleagues, and to work on an exciting range of design projects both in the Edinburgh area, and throughout the UK.

A large part of your work will be the technical design calculations of structures. You will also get hands on experience with structural inspections, site visits and surveys as well as report writing and building up commercial and technical skills with the full support of the team. This practical experience will enhance your theoretical training at Heriot Watt, as your working life will give you a deeper understanding of what you are learning.

We will enhance your apprenticeship studies with appropriate opportunities to put your learning to practical use, and you will also benefit from on the job training wherever appropriate. You will get be working for a small and friendly consultancy team, within a large global network of companies, giving you the best of both worlds in terms of work experience.

What will I learn?

You will study towards achieving a BEng (Hons) Graduate Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering 1 day per week at Heriot-Watt University whilst being a key member of the Acies Group. Attendance at classes is mandatory either online or in person and must be treated in the same way as any other working day.

What qualification or qualities are required?

You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement

Year 1 - 96 SCQF credits at level 6 or Minimum 126 UCAS points, for example:
• SQA Highers at AAAB or ABBBB (Mathematics desirable but not essential);
• A-Levels at ABC or BBB; • Scottish Baccalaureate Pass;
• Int. Baccalaureate 29 points.
• Foundation Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering in conjunction with SQA Highers at AAB (Mathematics desirable but not essential). Candidates should have National 5/Standard Grade Maths or equivalent.

Year 2 - 96 SCQF credits at level 7, for example:
• SQA Advanced Highers at BB including Mathematics and SQA Highers at AAAB;
• A-Levels at ABB including Mathematics;
• HNC Civil Engineering with A in the graded unit;
• HND Civil Engineering with B in the graded unit;
• A suitable Modern/Technical Apprenticeship;
• Scottish Baccalaureate Distinction;
• Int. Baccalaureate 35 points.

Advanced entry to second (or third year in extraordinary cases) may be possible if the candidate possesses more advanced prior learning or experience.

Candidates with relevant and demonstrable work experience will also be considered.
