Look after children as a day care assistant or create a caring environment for them as a residential worker. Give young people and their families the support they need as a social worker. This modern apprenticeship will prepare you for a variety of childcare jobs.
In Scotland, social work and childcare have experienced tremendous growth. There are plenty of jobs to look for, with progression available too.
You'll gain a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 7.

Your qualification includes:
Core units of an SVQ in Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7.
A range of work experience
Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7
To achieve your qualification, you’ll be assessed during work. You’ll learn how to:
Support successful communication
Safeguard children and young people
Further your knowledge and practice
Promote health and safety within the work environment
Your apprenticeship will also help you to develop the following core skills:
Communication
Problem - solving
Working with others
Numeracy
Information and Communication technology
These skills are transferable and will help your chances of getting a job in child care.
Your Modern Apprenticeship gives you lots of options. You could further your education through another apprenticeship or work in childcare full time.
Further study: By completing your Modern Apprenticeship you could go on to study for a Technical Apprenticeship at SCQF level 9. This experience can support a university application for a bachelors or masters in childcare.

How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.
How long will it take?
This Modern Apprenticeship will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
