The Foundation Apprenticeship

An FA IT: Hardware and System Support helps you discover what a career in ICT and digital technologies would be like, and if it’s right for you – while you're still at school. You’ll try different hardware and support job roles, shadow experienced staff, or do a special project. You’ll build the practical skills and experience you need to do the job well.

What qualifications will I gain?

You’ll be assessed throughout your FA IT: Hardware and System Support. At the end, you’ll achieve a Foundation Apprenticeship (Group Award) at SCQF Level 6 in IT: Hardware and System Support, which includes:

  • Five units from the Diploma for IT and Telecommunications Professional (SCQF Level 6)
  • A National Progression Award in Professional Computer Fundamentals (SCQF Level 6)

Where could it take me?

With a FA IT: Hardware and System Support you could:

  • Gain accelerated entry onto the Modern Apprenticeship in IT and Telecoms at SCQF Level 6
  • Gain entry onto the Technical Apprenticeship (at SCQF Level 8)
  • Explore options for a related Graduate Level Apprenticeship in ICT/Digital
  • Continue your studies at college or university
  • Go straight into a job in the IT industry
