Scotland’s career development sector is fast-paced with a variety of roles. It's a sector dedicated to personal development, training and job support.
 
The apprenticeship gives you an idea of what it means to help develop people's career paths. You'll learn how to:
  • make connections across various partners
  • help people use digital tools and employability resource
  • support job-seekers to engage with employers and training providers
Career development is diverse with lots of progression. You'll improve your recruitment knowledge and thrive in employability roles. You could go on and study to become a qualified careers adviser. That would mean helping people to identify and progress their career goals. 
 
You'll also develop your networking skills and gain transferrable skills.

What's the qualification?

You will gain a qualification in career information, advice and employability support at SCQF level 9The qualification includes:  

  • core units of aSVQ in career information, advice and employability support at SCQF leve9.   
  • work experience in a dynamic and exciting industry

What will I learn?

During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:

  • use labour market information
  • help customers to access professional careers advice
  • help customers to access partner support
  • be an advocate for customers with partners
  • help customers take forward actions for their goals
  • use digital tools and resources for career development
  • create lasting client relationships
  • develop strong connections with co-workers
  • plan, run and evaluate projects

This apprenticeship will help you develop core skills such as:

This Technical Apprenticeship gives you different options. Choose to continue your education or find a career development job.   

Further study: Continue your studies with a career development post graduate degree (SCQF 11) at university. The qualification required to be a sector endorsed qualified Careers Adviser. Your experience will support your application.

Straight to work: Use your qualifications and find a job in the career development sector. With this apprenticeship, you could go on to the following jobs:

Entry requirements

Although there are no set entry requirements for this apprenticeship, it’s useful to have completed the modern apprenticeship in career development.  

Duration

This Technical Apprenticeship will take between 12-24 months to complete.
