Description

This is a broad-based Modern Apprenticeship, allowing some scope for specialisation in structured data processing or multimedia applications. The qualified apprentice will be able to troubleshoot and solve problems using a range of different application software packages as appropriate to the business context in which they are working.

The qualification

SCQF level 6

Your apprentice will study for a Modern Apprenticehip in Digital Applications, which consists of:

  • Diploma in Digital Application Support at SCQF Level 6
  • Mandatory units and optional units
  • Enhancements: office applications and industry specific units
Entry requirements

There are no specific qualifications required for entry on to the apprenticeship framework, however, many employers require good (A-C) Higher passes in English and Maths in order to directly enter a level 3 Modern Apprenticeship. Prospective apprentices who have achieved a Standard Grade A-C in Maths and English will be exempt from completing the corresponding Core Skills in Numeracy or Communications, if these were gained within 5 years of beginning the MA.

Progression and development

On completion of the MA, candidates may progress into careers in the industry sector in which they are based or choose to specialise further and pursue a career as an IT professional.

Following the completion of the Modern Apprenticeship, candidates should be able to achieve positions in areas such as: 

  • Office support
  • IT application helpdesk and support
  • Website development or publishing
  • Database development
  • Digital marketing

Candidates may wish to progress to National or Higher Qualifications in a related subject area, such as:

  • Higher Apprenticeship (SCQF 8) for IT and Telecoms Professionals, with specialism in Web design and development, Digital marketing, Data analytics or Application helpdesk and user support
  • Full time education at College or University (HND or degree courses)

How is it funded?

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider directly in incremental payments throughout the course of the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees who are aged 16 – 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we do encourage all employers to pay the living wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

It will take between 12-24 months to complete.
