Description

This Modern Apprenticeship is designed for employees working in engineering construction across a number of industries. This includes: Oil and gas Water Power generation Nuclear Chemical Pharmaceutical Environmental Food and drink It offers a wide range of potential pathways, so that as an employer you can choose the units that are most appropriate for the job at hand.

The qualification

SCQF level 6-7

Your employee will study for a qualification in one of:

  • Erecting Engineering Construction Capital Plant Steel Structures at SCQF Level 6
  • Fabricating Engineering Construction Steel Structures - Plating at SCQF Level 7
  • Installing Engineering Construction Plant and Systems - Mechanical Fitting at SCQF Level 6
  • Installing Engineering Construction Plant and Systems - Pipefitting at SCQF Level 6
  • Installing Engineering Construction Plant and Systems - Electrical at SCQF Level 7
  • Moving Engineering Construction Loads at SCQF Level 6
  • Welding Engineering Construction Pipework at SCQF Level 7
  • Welding Engineering Construction Plate at SCQF Level 7
  • Engineering Construction Non-Destructive Testing at SCQF Level 6
  • Maintaining Engineering Construction Plant and Systems - Electrical at SCQF Level 7
  • Maintaining Engineering Construction Plant and Systems - Instrument and Controls at SCQF Level 7
  • Maintaining Engineering Construction Plant and Systems - Mechanical at SCQF Level 7
  • Engineering Construction Design and Draughting at SCQF Level 6
  • Project Control at SCQF Level 6
Entry requirements

It’s likely that candidates will have some engineering or technical qualification, or have some previous engineering experience

Progression and development

Once they complete their apprenticeship, employees could progress into supervisory or management roles. To support this further development, there are a number of professional qualifications that would give them the appropriate skills. These include:

  • HNC in measurement and control engineering
  • HNC in mechanical engineering
  • HNC in electrical engineering

How is it funded?

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider directly in incremental payments throughout the course of the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees who are aged 16 – 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we do encourage all employers to pay the living wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.
