You will gain a qualification at SCQF level 6 or 7 in engineering constructionBoth qualificationinclude:  

  • Core units of aSVQ in engineering construction at SCQF level 6 and 7  
  • Work experience in a dynamic and fast-moving industry

What will I learn?

During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:   

  • Mark out components for metalwork 
  • Cut and shape materials using thermal cutting equipment 
  • Form pipework by machine bending 
  • Produce pipe fabrications 
  • Weld materials with mechanised arc welding equipment 
  • Produce sheet metal assemblies    

You will develop the following core skills:   

  • Time management  
  • Problem-solving  
  • Communication  
  • Teamwork   

These transferrable skills are useful for working in other jobs such as construction and mechanical engineering.

This Modern Apprenticeship gives you a variety of studying and job options. Carry on your education with a higher qualification in engineering construction or find a full-time job.

Entry requirements

Although there are no set requirements for the apprenticeship, it is useful to have engineering experience.
