What's the qualification?
The apprenticeship is offered at two levels. You’ll gain a Modern Apprenticeship in Life Sciences and Related Science Industry SCQF level 6 or level 7. Whether you’re new to the industry or are part of a team, you’ll learn skills that can help you progress.
SCQF level 6
With this apprenticeship you’ll study for one of the following:
- Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities
- Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Industrial Science)
- Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Educational Science)
- Life Sciences and Related Industries
- A qualification at SCQF level 5 in Applied Science or Practical Science
SCQF level 7
With this apprenticeship you’ll study for one of the following:
- Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities
- Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Industrial Science)
- Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Educational Science)
- Life Sciences and Related Industries
- A qualification in Applied Sciences, Laboratory Science or Bioscience
What will I learn?
As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll be assessed in work. You’ll learn how to:
- Use manual equipment to carry out scientific or technical tests
- Follow health and safety guide for scientific or technical activities
- Prepare solutions for scientific use
You’ll also develop core skills that can help in your career, such as:
- Communication
- Working with others
- Problem-solving
- Time management
These skills are useful for a variety of science related jobs.
Where could it take me?
This Modern Apprenticeship gives you a lot of options. You could continue to study a science related subject or go into full time work.
Further study: You could continue your studies at college with a NC or HND in chemistry or a related subject. Study at university for a science degree. Your experience will support your application.
Straight to work: Use your work experience to get a job in the science industry. With this apprenticeship, you could move onto jobs like:
