The apprenticeship is designed to increase your awareness of press and print production. Work with the latest hardware such as 3D and interactive printers. Learn about advanced printing techniques like lithography, letterpress and flexography. Develop your knowledge of safe manufacturing processes and help to enhance customer service.  

Scotland’s printing industry offers a variety of jobs. Construct and develop creative products as a 3D printing specialist. Repair damaged machines as a printing maintenance officer. Work as a scanning technician and carry out performance diagnostics for different printers  

  

What's the qualification?

You will gain a qualification at SCQF level 5 or 6 in print industry occupations. The qualification includes:  

  • Core units of aSVQ in print industry occupations at SCQF leve5 or level 6
  • Work experience in an innovative and dynamic sector

What will I learn?

During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:   

  • Comply with health and safety requirements in the workplace 
  • Improve the effectiveness of the print organisation through good communications with others 
  • Manage print production processes 
  • Produce quotations for printed products  
  • Send and receive digital files 
  • Produce work orders for the production of printed matter 
  • Check and archive finished print job records   

You will develop the following core skills:

These transferrable skills are useful for working in other jobs such as customer service and business administration.

Further education: Enhance your technical knowledge by applying for a bachelor’s degree in 3D printing or mechanical engineering. Your experience will support your university application.  

Straight to work: Utilise your qualifications to find a job in the printing industry. After completing the apprenticeship, you could move onto jobs like:

There are no specific requirements for this apprenticeship. However, it is worth having an interest in printing technology.   

Duration

This Modern Apprenticeship will take between 12-24 months to complete.
