Description

This Modern Apprenticeship equips employees in the chemicals, pharmaceutical and downstream sectors with the skills and knowledge they need. With a range of pathways, it’s suitable for roles such as process operator, engineering maintenance technician, refinery operator, technician or laboratory assistant.

The qualification

SCQF level 6/7

Your employee will study for one of the following qualifications:

  • Processing Industries Operations – Controlling Process Operations at SCQF level 6
  • Process Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical) at SCQF level 7
  • Process Engineering Maintenance (Electrical) at SCQF level 7
  • Process Engineering Maintenance (Instrument and Control) at SCQF level 7
  • Downstream Field Operations at SCQF level 7
  • Downstream Control Room Operations at SCQF level 6
Entry requirements

There are no set entry requirements for this apprenticeship.

Progression and development

After completing this Modern Apprenticeship, your employees will be able to progress to further qualifications and awards, including:

  • an HNC/ HND in chemical engineering or a related discipline
  • a degree in process/chemical engineering or a related discipline
  • assessor and verifier awards
  • membership of a professional institution at engineering technician level
  • Cogent Gold Standard qualifications
  • qualifications in a complementary area, such as health and safety, training and development, business improvement or management

How is it funded?

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider directly in incremental payments throughout the course of the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees who are aged 16 – 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we do encourage all employers to pay the living wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

It will take between 12-24 months to complete.
