The apprenticeship is tailored to individuals who want to develop specialist skills. Learn how to handle materials like polypropylene and polyethene. Increase your knowledge of safe disposal techniques and make sure you are working in a safe environment. Learn how to transform raw materials like fluoride into useful products such as toothpaste.   

Scotland’s process manufacturing sector has a variety of jobs to choose from. Work as a maintenance technician and keep engineering assets in good condition. Become a refinery operative and test products to ensure they meet safety standards. Work as a process operator and monitor the production targets of different departments.  

What's the qualification?

You will gain a qualification at SCQF level 6 and 7 in process manufacturing. The qualification includes:  

  • Core units of aSVQ in process manufacturing at SCQF leve6 or 7  
  • Work experience in a fast-moving sector

What will I learn?

During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:   

  • Monitor and maintain a safe working environment 
  • Conduct a health and safety risk assessment of a workplace 
  • Develop and sustain productive working relationships with colleagues 
  • Organise and carry out the maintenance of process equipment  
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of treatment processes 
  • Monitor and maintain treatment processing at optimum performance   

You will develop the following core skills:

  • Teamwork   

These transferrable skills are useful for working in other jobs such as supply chain and customer service. 

Where could it take me?

There are many pathways to choose from after finishing this Modern Apprenticeship. Choose to carry on your studies with a technical apprenticeship in process manufacturing or go into full-time work.    

Further education: Continue to improve your technical skills by studying for bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Your experience will support your university application.   

Straight to work: Utilise your qualifications to find a job in the process manufacturing industry. After completing the apprenticeship, you could move onto jobs like:
