Earning this will allow you to work in supervisory and management roles in a range of adult and young people services.

What's the qualification?

You will earn a Technical Apprenticeship at SCQF level 9 in Social Services and Healthcare. This qualification consists of: 

  • specialised SVQ modules and units of transferable career skills 
  • a work placement in a relevant job role that develops your abilities in a practical environment 

Entry requirements

Candidates should have completed SCQF level 7 Modern Apprenticeship in Social Services and Healthcare, or have equivalent qualifications or experience.

Progression and development

This Technical Apprenticeship qualifies you to be recognised as supervisors or managers in areas across the sector.

You can progress to the SCQF Level 10 apprenticeship in Leadership and Management in Care Services or transfer into the Social Services (Children and Young People) route.

There are many opportunities for career progression upon completion of this Technical Apprenticeship in Social Services and Healthcare. You can begin further study courses or join the social services workforce straight away. 

Further education: Develop your knowledge to work in high-level senior roles. The SVQ in Leadership and Management for Care Services is ideal for this type of career progression. 

Straight to work: Use your qualification in social services to secure employment immediately. 

After completing the apprenticeship, you could work as a supervisor or manager in many areas within the sector. For example, supporting individuals and staff in care homes, day centres or community settings.


Entry requirements

A Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF level 7 in Social Services and Healthcare can qualify you for this course. Or, you can obtain the necessary practical experience by undertaking a work placement in social services before applying for the course. 


This Technical Apprenticeship will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
