Description

This Modern Apprenticeship is offered at two levels. It can train those new to the resource management industry, as well as for upskilling existing teams. The skills and experience gained through this apprenticeship would suit roles such as a refuse driver, weighbridge operative or environmental services operative.

Qualifications

SCQF level 5

Your employee will study for a qualification at SCQF level 5 in one of:

  • Waste Operations: Waste Collection Operative
  • Waste Operations: Waste Collection Driver
  • Waste Operations: Waste Site Operative
  • Waste Operations: Waste Weighbridge Operative
  • Waste Operations: Waste Team Leader
  • Frontline Environmental Services
Entry requirements

There are no set entry requirements for this apprenticeship but candidates should be responsible, used to working with the public and willing to work outdoors.

After completing this Modern Apprenticeship, your employees will have the skills needed for the following types of roles:

SCQF level 6

Your employee will study for a qualification at SCQF level 6 in Waste Supervisory Management.

Entry requirements

Candidates should have completed the sustainable resource management MA at SCQF level 5, or have equivalent qualifications or experience.

Progression and development

After completing this apprenticeship, your employees will have the skills needed for the following types of roles:

  • Reuse supervisor
  • Refuse collection supervisor (team leader)
  • Transfer station supervisor
  • Household waste recycling centre supervisor
  • Landfill supervisor
  • Sustainability officer

How is it funded?

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider directly in incremental payments throughout the course of the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees who are aged 16 – 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we do encourage all employers to pay the living wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

Time to complete

It will take between 12-24 months to complete.
