Description

This Modern Apprenticeship is for employees who want to pursue a career in Youth Work. It’s available at 2 levels so it's suitable for new entrants and for existing staff to develop their skills.

After completion, they could work for a range of organisation types, including:

  • local authorities
  • faith-based and charity organisations
  • health services
  • police
  • fire brigade

The aim of the apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 is to offer an introductory qualification to people starting youth work careers. This will equip them to operate confidently in supported settings.

At SCQF Level 7 the apprenticeship offers a progression opportunity to practitioners who:

  • have already demonstrated a basic competence in youth work
  • are ready to assume greater levels of responsibility
  • want to advance to the next stage in their youth work career

Qualifications

SCQF Level 6

Your employee will study for a qualification in Youth Work at SCQF Level 6.

Entry requirements

This apprenticeship is aimed at those who can show involvement in Community Learning Development (CLD) work.

Selection is based on potential ability to complete the award rather than specific academic ability.

Other factors which may influence the recruitment and selection process include:

  • previous volunteer experience in community development work
  • willingness to work unsociable hours
  • ability to communicate well within a team
  • working with people in general
Progression and development

When they complete the apprenticeship, they can aim for roles which involve youth work or related approaches.

They can also progress their career in youth work or CLD with further qualifications including:

  • Modern Apprenticeship in Youth Work at SCQF Level 7
  • HNC Working with Communities at SCQF Level 7
  • Degree and Honours Degree in Community Learning and Development, Community Education or Community Development

Your employee will complete a SVQ in Youth Work at SCQF Level 7.

How is it funded?

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

The training contribution calculator will show you our funding contribution for this framework.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

Time to complete

It will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
