Description

This is a specialist Modern Apprenticeship for individuals whose goal is to become a professional football or rugby player. It complements sports training, covering related aspects such as attitude, mental skills and lifestyle issues, as well as helping them plan for a future career.

Your employee will study for a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 8.

Entry requirements

Candidates should have a talent for football or rugby and a reasonable level of skill to build a career in either sport.

Progression and development

After completing this level, candidates can pursue a career as a player at team or international level. The apprenticeship also allows them to consider jobs such as:

  • sports coach

  • personal trainer

  • sports official

  • leisure manager

They'll also develop core skills to allow them to pursue careers outwith sports.

How does it work?

Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.

Cost and funding

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

How long will it take?

It'll take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
