Description
This Modern Apprenticeship helps employers to bring in new talent, as well as upskilling and retraining existing staff in construction building occupations. Different training options include:
bricklaying
carpentry and joinery
floor covering
painting and decorating
plastering
roofing occupations
stonemasonry
timber frame erection
wall and floor tiling
woodmachining

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship at either level.
To start at SCQF Level 6, it may be helpful if candidates have completed the MA at SCQF Level 5 or have some experience in the industry.
Progression and development
SCQF Level 5
There are clear progression routes within this apprenticeship. Your employee could move onto SCQF Level 6 in Construction: Building.
Or they could progress from specialist occupations into supervisory technical occupations at SCQF Level 6, or Technical and Professsional apprenticeships.
They may choose to move into further or higher education in a related subject.
SCQF Level 6
After completing this level, your employee could progress from specialist occupations into supervisory technical occupations at SCQF Level 6, or Technical and Professional apprenticeships.
They may choose to move into further or higher education in a related subject.
How does it work?
Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.
Cost and funding
We contribute towards training costs
We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?
Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.
How long will it take?
It will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
