Description

This Modern Apprenticeship is suitable for those interested in pursuing a career as a dental nurse in the dental sector.

Employment can be on a part-time or full-time basis, in sectors including:

  • general dental practice

  • public dental service

  • dental hospitals

  • general hospitals

  • armed forces

All new entrants to the sector need to access quality-assured training programmes to achieve the standard for inclusion on the register as a dental nurse, held by the General Dental Council (GDC).

Your employee will study for a Modern Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing at SCQF Level 7.

Completing the following qualifications will enable individuals to register with the General Dental Council to work as a dental nurse.

Entry requirements

There are no set entry requirements for this apprenticeship.

Progression and development

After completing this apprenticeship, dental nurses could progress onto a range of careers in the sector. This includes:

  • dental receptionist

  • practice manager

  • orthodontic therapist

  • dental technician

  • therapist

How does it work?

Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.

Cost and funding

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

The training contribution calculator will show you our funding contribution for this framework.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

How long will it take?

It will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
