Description
This apprenticeship supports the development of apprentices working in the road haulage sector and driving goods vehicles.
The apprenticeship includes acquiring a mandatory licence in one of the following goods vehicles categories:
C1LGV
CRigid
CEArticulated

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship, but it's recommended that candidates have a valid car licence.
Progression and development
When they complete the apprenticeship, they'll have achieved competence-based and professional qualifications. These open the door to opportunities for progression in work and future learning.
Career advancement
Successful apprentices may progress into roles that align to their qualification, for example progressing from van-driving to articulated lorry-driving. They could also progress into roles such as:

How does it work?
Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.
Cost and funding
We contribute towards training costs
We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?
Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.
How long will it take?
This apprenticeship should take around 1 year to complete. Experienced employees may complete it in a shorter time.
