What's Engineering: Manufacturing and Fabrication like?
This apprenticeship supports you if you're working, or want to work, in engineering and manufacturing roles. Manufacturing is producing something from start to finish. Fabrication is combining different parts to form a finished product. Jobs in this area could include:
machinist
welder
fabricator
pipe-fitter
tool-maker
process control technician
automation engineer
production technician
You'll gain a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 7.

Your qualification includes:
NC/HNC in an Engineering or Engineering related discipline at SCQF 5 or above
and either:
EAL Diploma in Engineering at SCQF Level 7 (Manufacturing and Fabrication Pathway) R807 04
or
SQA Diploma in Engineering: Engineering Manufacturing and Fabrication at SCQF Level 7, GV32 47
You'll gain skills and knowledge to allow you to work in engineering environments, in:
manufacturing
processing
fabricating
You'll also develop the following core skills:
teamwork
problem-solving
communication
time management
These transferrable skills are useful for working in other areas such as civil engineering and technical engineering.
This Modern Apprenticeship gives you many options. Carry on your education with an engineering degree, get a job in the industry or progress to a Graduate Apprenticeship.

Entry requirements
There are no set entry requirements. It may be useful to have some work experience but employers will also welcome a strong interest in engineering and an enthusiasm for the role.
How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.
How long will it take?
This Modern Apprenticeship will take around 4 years to complete.
