What's Engineering: Technical Support like?
This apprenticeship supports you if you're working, or want to work, in engineering technical support roles. These could include:
technical support in a design office
network design technician
business support
design and drafting technician
automation engineer
technical support analyst
control engineer
You'll gain a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 7.

Your qualification includes:
NC/HNC in an Engineering or Engineering related discipline at SCQF Level 5 or above
and either:
EAL Diploma in Engineering at SCQF Level 7 (Technical Support Pathway) R807 04
or
SQA Diploma in Engineering: Engineering Technical Support at SCQF Level 7 GV30 47
You'll develop the skills and knowledge to provide technical support functions, for example:
designing and producing technical drawings
designing and producing models
specialist technical support
You'll also develop the following core skills:
teamwork
problem-solving
communication
time management
These transferrable skills are useful for working in other areas such as civil engineering and technical engineering.
This Modern Apprenticeship gives you many options. Carry on your education with an engineering degree, get a job in the industry or progress to a Graduate Apprenticeship.
Straight to work: Use your qualifications and find an engineering job. These could include specialist technical roles or supervisor/manager roles.

Entry requirements
There are no set entry requirements. It may be useful to have some work experience but employers will also welcome a strong interest in engineering and an enthusiasm for the role.
How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.

This Modern Apprenticeship will take around 4 years to complete.
