Scotland’s insurance industry offers a wealth of job opportunities. Become a broker technician and facilitate relationships between clients and insurance companies. Work as an underwriting technician and develop risk management procedures for large businesses. Or you could become a claims technician and apply your specialist knowledge to insurance cases.

Insurance at SCQF Level 8
During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:
Manage business relationships with clients in a financial services environment
Progress complex insurance renewals
Evaluate and decide whether to underwrite new risks
Negotiate and determine the conditions under which risk will be underwritten
Progress the underwriting of complex insurance policy alterations
Progress complex claims for uninsured losses
Progress complex mid-term insurance amendments

These transferrable skills are useful for working in other jobs such as financial advising and data admin.
This Technical Apprenticeship gives you a range of options. Carry on your studies with a bachelor’s degree in insurance or go on to full-time work.
Further education: Improve your financial knowledge by studying for an advanced qualification like a Chartered Institute of Insurers Level 6 diploma in insurance. You could also study for an MSC in insurance and risk management or a Masters in finance.

Entry requirements
There are no set requirements for the apprenticeship. However, it would be beneficial to have strong numeracy and IT skills.
How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.
How long will it take?
This Technical Apprenticeship will take 12 to 24 months to complete.
