Description

This Modern Apprenticeship has valuable recognition in the nuclear sector across the UK. It supports the supply of new talent into the workforce and develops the pipeline of young talent required by the sector.

Employees will learn the skills required for this key specialist role which is vital to ensuring operations within the nuclear sector are carried out to the highest levels of safety.

Your employee will study for a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 5.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this apprenticeship but candidates should have a safety-orientated attitude. You may also wish to consider a trial observation period.

Progression and development

After completing this Modern Apprenticeship, employees may choose to continue their studies with an HNC or HND in a related subject. They could also progress their career within the industry to take on roles such as:

  • health physics monitor

  • radiation protection team leader

  • radiation protection adviser

  • health physicist

Some of these roles will be longer term and will require further training and qualifications.

How does it work?

Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.

Cost and funding

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

How long will it take?

This Modern Apprenticeship will typically take 2 years to complete.
