Description
This Modern Apprenticeship prepares employees for a variety of roles in the signmaking industry. These include signmakers, sign installers, quality technicians, or manufacturing technicians. It’s offered at two levels to support those who are new to the industry, and for upskilling experienced teams.

Entry requirements
SCQF Level 5
There are no set entry requirements for this apprenticeship.
SCQF Level 6
Candidates should have completed the SCQF Level 5 in Signmaking, or have equivalent qualifications or experience.
Progression and development
On completing this Modern Apprenticeship, your employees will have the skills they need for roles such as:
Quality control inspector
Signmaker
Sign installer
Fabricator/ fitter
This apprenticeship also prepares employees to progress onto Signmaking at SCQF level 6, or other training programmes, including:
HNC/HND in art and design, design, graphics, fabrication and welding or a related discipline
Assessor and verifier awards
Qualifications in a related area, such as health and safety, training and development, business improvement techniques or supervisory management
How does it work?
Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.
Cost and funding
We contribute towards training costs
We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?
Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.
How long will it take?
It will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
