Modern Apprentice, Creative and digital media

My advice for anyone who's thinking about applying for an apprenticeship is definitely three words: Take the plunge.

Stewart's apprenticeship with BBC Scotland has seen him get hands-on experience in radio.

'Since starting my apprenticeship, my attitude to how my disability is portrayed has changed,' he says.

Simple changes

Stewart is profoundly and severely deaf, and his employer made a few simple adjustments to make sure he could do the job. This included using email and instant messaging instead of the phone.

He's also run BSL classes for some of his colleagues, helping them to learn some sign language.

Where to get support

If you're deaf or have a hearing loss, you can get advice and support on how to make adjustments at work.
