Description

This Modern Apprenticeship will help employees work in entry-level roles across fashion and textiles.

There are four pathways available – each one allows apprentices to build the skills and knowledge they need to work within their chosen specialism. The pathways are:

  • Leather Manufacturing

  • Sewn Products Manufacturing

  • Textiles Care

  • Textiles Manufacturing

The Modern Apprenticeship is suitable for employees working in roles such as:

  • bespoke cutter or tailor

  • leather craftsperson

  • material cutter

  • sewing machinist

  • textile care operative

  • weaver

Your employee will study for a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 5.

Entry requirements

Candidates don’t need any prior experience or qualifications to apply for this Modern Apprenticeship.

Although, you should consider existing workplace skills and experience when applicants are changing careers or upskilling.

Progression and development

Once your employee completes their apprenticeship, they should be able to take on a range of roles relevant to the pathway studied.

Apprentices have opportunities to advance their skills further by studying a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 or 7 in Fashion and Textiles Heritage.

An employee will also be in a good position to progress on to a Modern Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management at SCQF Level 7.

This gives a detailed description of the work situations routinely carried out in this role.

How does it work?

Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.

Cost and funding

We contribute towards training costs

We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?

Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages.

This is not set by Skills Development Scotland, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

How long will it take?

This apprenticeship will take up to 12 months to complete.
