Description
This Modern Apprenticeship helps employees develop skills and knowledge they need to work in the healthcare sector. It supports those with no previous experience in the healthcare sector, as well as existing employees who want to develop their skills.
Apprenticeship framework(s)
Your employee will study for a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 and 7. They can choose the clinical or non-clinical pathway, depending on the nature of their duties.

Entry requirements
SCQF Level 6
Candidates don’t need any previous experience or qualifications.
SCQF Level 7
Candidates should have completed SCQF Level 6 or have some experience in the role.
Progression and development
SCQF Level 6
The SCQF Level 6 qualification prepares employees for a career or further educational progress in this sector, and is a pathway into a wider range of services. Successful apprentices may progress to the SCQF Level 7 Modern Apprenticeship in Healthcare Support.
SCQF Level 7
SCQF Level 7 prepares employees for a career or further educational progress in this sector, and is a pathway into a wider range of services. Successful apprentices may progress to higher education or other professional development courses, which could lead to supervisor or management roles.
How does it work?
Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.
Cost and funding
We contribute towards training costs
We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?
Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.
How long will it take?
It will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
