What's Healthcare Support like?
Do you have a desire to help people? Do you want to make a difference in someone’s life? Study for an apprenticeship in healthcare support and work alongside people who are dedicated to saving lives.
The apprenticeship is geared towards anyone who wants to improve their medical knowledge. Learn how to maintain a healthy environment for patients. Use a range of medical equipment such as oxygen machines and heart rate monitors. Discover what it means to look after a variety of patients and make them feel comfortable.
Whether you’re interested in healthcare administration or a hands-on role, there’s a job for you in the industry. For example, you could:
work as a healthcare assistant and help to make patients feel comfortable in hospital
become an ambulance driver and help transport people to hospital

You'll gain a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 or Level 7.

What will I learn?
During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:
communicate effectively in a healthcare environment
maintain health, safety and security practices within a health setting
develop your practice through reflection
prepare individuals for endoscopic procedures
measure and record patients' body fluid output
assist and support in the monitoring of patients within the perioperative environment
You'll develop the following core skills:
teamwork
numeracy
problem-solving
communication
time-management
These transferrable skills are useful for working in other jobs such as administration and mental health support.
Where could it take me?
This Modern Apprenticeship gives you a variety of options. Carry on your studies with a healthcare support degree or go into full-time work.
Further education: Continue to improve your medical knowledge by studying for a healthcare degree, such as mental health nursing. Your experience will support your university application.
Straight to work: Use your qualifications and find a job in the healthcare support industry. After completing the apprenticeship, you could move onto jobs such as:

GP administrator

healthcare administrator
care assistant
Entry requirements
There are no set requirements for the apprenticeship. But it's useful to have an interest in the healthcare support field.
How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.
How long will it take?
This Modern Apprenticeship will take 12 to 24 months to complete.
