Sustainable Resource Management
This Modern Apprenticeship can train those new to the resource management industry, as well as upskilling existing teams. The skills and experience gained through this apprenticeship would suit roles such as a refuse driver, weighbridge operative or environmental services operative.
Your employee will study for a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 5. Their qualification will include:
Waste Operations: Waste Collection Operative at SCQF Level 5
Waste Operations: Waste Collection Driver at SCQF Level 5
Waste Operations: Waste Site Operative at SCQF Level 5
Waste Operations: Waste Weighbridge Operative at SCQF Level 5
Waste Operations: Waste Team Leader at SCQF Level 5
Frontline Environmental Services at SCQF Level 5
There are no set entry requirements for this apprenticeship but candidates should be responsible, used to working with the public and willing to work outdoors.
Progression and development
After completing this Modern Apprenticeship, your employees will have the skills needed for the following types of roles:
Environmental services operative
Refuse collection operative
Refuse sales operative
Waste collection driver
Refuse collection loader
Transfer station operative
Household waste recycling centre operative
How does it work?
Apprentices will learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. They’ll also study with a college or other learning provider.
Cost and funding
We contribute towards training costs
We do this by paying the learning provider throughout the apprenticeship.

An enhanced funding contribution is paid for employees aged 16 to 19. For those who are disabled and care-experienced, this is extended up to and including age 29.

Who pays the apprentice?
Like any other employee of your business, you’ll pay the Modern Apprentice's wages. This is not set by SDS, but we encourage all employers to pay the Living Wage. Remember, you must pay at least the National Minimum Wage.
How long will it take?
It will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
