Foundation Apprenticeship IT: Software Development

Software development is behind every app you use, every computer game you play.

It’s databases, virtual reality and robotics – and much more. Where it goes next is up to you.

A Foundation Apprenticeship in IT: Software Development could be your key to a bright future in the industry.

The Foundation Apprenticeship

An FA Software Development helps you discover what a career in ICT and digital technologies would be like, and if it’s right for you – while you're still at school. You’ll try software development roles, shadow experienced developers, or do a special project. You’ll build the practical skills and experience you need to do the job well.

What qualifications will I gain?

You’ll be assessed throughout your FA IT: Software Development. At the end, you’ll achieve a Foundation Apprenticeship (Group Award) in ICT Software Development at SCQF Level 6, which includes:

  • Five units from the Diploma for IT and Telecommunications Professional (SCQF Level 6)
  • A National Progression Award in Software Development (SCQF Level 6)

Where could it take me?

With a FA IT: Software Development you could:

  • Gain accelerated entry onto the Modern Apprenticeship in IT and Telecoms at SCQF Level 6
  • Gain entry onto the Technical Apprenticeship in IT and Telecomms Professional at SCQF Level 8
  • Explore options for a related Graduate Level Apprenticeship in ICT/Digital
  • Continue your studies at college or university
