What will I learn?

A GA is about much more than just getting a degree. Because it’s work-based, you’ll also gain a whole range of useful experience and skills in areas such as:

  •  Organisational performance including business finance, digital business and project management
  •  Interpersonal excellence such as communication and managing people
  •  Personal effectiveness including decision making and self management
  •  Change management including communications, political context and administration and   implementation
  •  Human resources including legal requirements and management
  •  Sales and marketing including customer behaviour, planning and customer experience
  •  Procurement and supply chain management 
  •  International trade including globalisation, cultural awareness and international trade theory
  •  Financial services such as finance markets, international finance, accounting, business analytics and governance, risk and investment

The key content areas which make up the Business Management (including Financial Services) Graduate Apprenticeship:

  • Professional practice: qualifications relevant to role and professional recognition
  • Electives: change management, human resources, sales and marketing, procurement /supply chain management and international trade
  • Core management and business components: organisational performance, interpersonal excellence and personal effectiveness

Entry requirements

Entry requirements will vary by course and institution. Vacancy advertisements provide specific information on the qualifications required by the delivery institution for each GA. Alternatively, you can contact a university or college directly for guidance on entry requirements.

Duration

A GA at SCQF level 10 (honours degree level) will take up to four years to complete. A GA at SCQF level 8 or 9 (high apprenticeship) and SCQF level 11 (professional body qualification) will take up to two years to complete.

Some individuals may complete the GA in a shorter period of time because the format means they can attend university or college outwith traditional term times.
