Scotland’s financial sector is going from strength to strength. There’s a demand for business-minded people who can help to shape the future of the country’s economy. Accountancy jobs offer excellent salaries and there’s a wealth of training available. If you’re interested in progressing, the apprenticeship gives you the chance to build your knowledge. It gives you an edge and can put you on the path to a managerial position.  

There’s a wide range of jobs on offer. Help predict the future of the financial industry as an economist. Work with different clients as an investment banker and learn to manage money. The nature of the industry means you’ll have the chance to work in various locations too

What's the qualification?

There are three different levels available:   

SCQF Level 5  

A qualification at level 5 in accountancy or as a financial and management account technician.  

SCQF Level 6  

A qualification at level 6 in accountancy or as a financial and management account technician.  

SCQF level 8   

A qualification at level 8 in accountancy or as a financial and management account technician.  

They include the following:  

  • core units of an SVQ in accountancy at SCQF level 5, 6 or 8.  
  • work experience

What will I learn?

During work, you’ll learn how to:   

  • prepare financial documents 
  • record financial data  
  • analyse account information 
  • carry out best safety practices   

You’ll also develop core skills that will help in your job search. These could include:  

  • time management 
  • communication 
  • numeracy 
  • problem-solving  
  • working with others   

These transferable skills can be used in different jobs, such as insurance broking.   


Where could it take me?

This Modern Apprenticeship can provide a range of options. You could choose to further your education or go into full time work.   

Further study: Continue to study and progress to a HNC or HND in accountancy. Go on to study for a BA in accounting with the CIMA advanced diploma programme.  

Straight to work: Use your qualifications to help you find a job in accountancy. These could include:   

  • economist 
  • insurance broker  
  • investment analyst 
  • risk surveyor  
  • actuary  
  • investment banker  

Entry Requirements

SCQF level 5  

There are no set entry requirements.  

SCQF level 6   

You must have achieved one of the following qualifications:   

  • A level 5 in accountancy 
  • Higher accountancy at A-C 
  • Two Highers in other academic subjects A-C  

SCQF level 8   

You must have achieved one of the following qualifications:   

  • A level 5 in accountancy 
  • Higher accountancy at A-C 
  • Two Highers in other academic subjects A-C 

Duration

This Modern Apprenticeship will take between 12-24 months to complete.
