You’ll learn to become a buyer as you work with finance, operations and sales and you’ll carry out market research to help decide future prices.

What's the qualification?

You’ll gain a qualification at SCQF level 6 in procurement. This includes:  

  • core units of an SVQ in in procurement at SCQF level 6.  
  • a range of work experience in this industry

What will I learn?

To achieve your qualification, you’ll be assessed in work. You’ll learn how to:  

  • Carry out best practices in the supply chain industry 
  • Place orders with suppliers 
  • Analyse prices and stock 
  • Monitor the delivery of orders  

You’ll also develop core skills that can help with your job search. They are as followed:  

  • Communication 
  • Working with others 
  • Problem-solving 
  • Time management   

These transferable skills are useful for working in related jobs.  


Where could it take me?

This Modern Apprenticeship gives you plenty of opportunities. You could start working in the procurement industry full time or continue your studies through another apprenticeship.   

Further study: Continue your education by progressing to the Modern Apprenticeship in Supply Chain Management at SCQF level 8. You can also go onto study for a CIPS Diploma in procurement and supply.  

University: Go on to study a relevant procurement degree at university.  Your experience in the industry will support your application.   

Straight to work: Use your qualifications to find a job in the supply chain and logistics sector. With this Modern Apprenticeship, you could move onto jobs like:  

  • Administrator 
  • Assistant buyer 
  • Assistant contract officer 
  • Contract analyst 
  • Stock controller 

Entry requirements

You’d need to have at least one of the following qualifications to be considered for the apprenticeship:   

  • Higher level maths and English 
  • SCQF level 5 Supply Chain Management 
  • SCQF level 5 Warehousing and Storage 
  • Skills for Work at National 5 or Intermediate level 2 
  • Experience of working in supply chain management and/or procurement  

Duration

This Modern Apprenticeship will take between 12-24 months to complete.
