What's the qualification?

You will earn a Modern Apprenticeship qualification at either SCQF level 5 or 6 in Sustainable Resource Management. This qualification includes: 

  • Industry-focused vocational SVQ units alongside training in core business skills 
  • An enhancement module covering Sustainable Resource Management principles 
  • Real-world industry in a range of work experience

What will I learn?

Depending on the qualification units that you decide to complete, you will learn how to: 

  • Work safely within the waste and recycling industry 
  • Understand and follow environmental protection laws and guidelines 
  • Identify and process hazardous waste 
  • Correctly transport and manage different waste types 
  • Utilise management systems to plan resource usage effectively

Where could it take me?

There are a range of options available to you once you successfully complete this Modern Apprenticeship. You can either continue your formal education or learn at work with a job in the sector. 

Further education: Continue your studies with qualifications at a higher level. This Modern Apprenticeship can provide progression opportunities to courses such as the SCQF level 7 Diploma in Waste Management Operations or a Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Sustainable Resource Management or Waste Management. 

Straight to work: Use your sustainable resource management qualification to apply for and begin work as soon as you have completed your apprenticeship. You could secure employment in jobs such as

Entry requirements

There are no requirements or restrictions for entry into this apprenticeship. It is however recommended that you have an interest in working outdoors and possess the ability to perform physically demanding tasks if necessary. 


This Modern Apprenticeship will take between 12-24 months to complete.
